ActiMeat uses the blockchain technology to support product traceability
At first created to generate bitcoins, the blockchain technology gradually conquered various industries, gathering firms willing to track the origin of their raw materials. So, how does the blockchain really work? How can it serve the need of traceability for some products?
According to Blockchain France, the blockchain is defined as ‘a storage and transmission technology that is transparent, secured and works without any Central Review Body.’
It can be described as a secure and transparent database, indexing interactions’ history in chained blocks (hence the name blockchain). Several copies are saved in authorised peoples’ laptops. Anyone who needs to access the blockchain or just visualise it, must have an accreditation. This data distribution makes the blockchain almost forgery-proof since any change must be realised on every existing copy. The blockchain identifies in real time and on every copy, any alteration of a data block on one copy, ensuring the integrity of the data.
At ActiMeat, as our certified quality approach proves, transparency with our suppliers is at the heart of our know-how. Leaning on the blockchain technology, we intend to reinforce this aim but also to bring to our client’s consumers precise and available information regarding the origin of our raw materials.
Finally, we already ensure, from farm to table, a very high-quality meat. We are initiating an innovation process by contributing, within VITAGORA, to our sector’s collaborative group work on the blockchain.
